Donald W. Platts, P.E.

Donald W. Platts joined OMICRON electronics Corp. USA in 2014 where he provides technical support and training related to transformer applications and testing for customers and staff. In addition, he provides consulting services to OMICRON customers as the Senior Engineer in the Engineering Services group.

Don’s nearly 45 year career in the electric utility industry, has been with PPL Electric Utilities, SPX Transformer Solutions (formerly known as Waukesha Electric Systems), and an independent consultant.

At PPL, his experience was related to transformer applications, from product specification and design studies; purchase contracts (with approved supplier evaluations, factory inspections, and witness testing programs); maintenance programs; and failure analysis of transformers. He also participated in, or led, external engineering committees and working groups at PJM, EEI, NERC, EPRI, and IEEE.

With SPX, Don provided technical support for the Sales and Marketing group, working directly with customers; providing recommendations for application issues and correctly specifying equipment to meet the customer’s needs.

Don is an IEEE Life Member, and has been an active participant in the IEEE PES Transformers Committee since 1988. Presently he serves as the Past Chair of the Committee.

He has authored and presented technical papers, and training modules related to utility transformer applications at industry conferences and seminars sponsored by several organizations; (IEEE, Omicron, NETA, Weidmann, TJH2b, Doble, TSDOS, PPL Electric Utilities, SPX Transformer Solutions, Siemens, and PJM Interconnection). He has been a seminar instructor at NETA PowerTest 2016-2018.

Don received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania.


Brandon Dupuis

Brandon Dupuis received a B.S. Electrical Engineering from the University of Maine. He joined OMICRON electronics Corp. USA in 2013, where he presently holds the position of Regional Application Specialist for transformer testing. Brandon’s focus is currently on standard and advanced electrical diagnostics for power transformers and circuit breakers.

Presently, Brandon is a well-known OMICRON instructor teaching electrical transformer diagnostic testing theory, application, and test result analysis, which includes both presentations and hands-on training. Brandon is an active member of the IEEE/PES Transformers Committee.
