Frances Perkins Building

The Department of Labor (DOL) Frances Perkins Building is located at 200 Constitution Avenue NW, on the northeast corner of Constitution Avenue and 3rd Street NW in Washington, DC. The Visitor's Entrance, referred to as the Fountain Entrance, is one block north of Constitution Avenue on 3rd Street NW at 3rd and C Streets NW. Due to limited parking in the area and traffic congestion, Metro is the easiest way to access the DOL Building.

Metro Directions

The closest Metro station to DOL is the Judiciary Square Metro Station.

  • Take the Red line to the Judiciary Square station.
  • Exit the train platform in the direction of 4th Street NW.
  • Take the escalators to the street level, and walk straight ahead through a small plaza to the corner of 4th and D Streets NW.
  • Cross D Street NW and turn slightly left and follow the diagonal walk toward the west side of the large building which is the Frances Perkins Building.
  • Walk along the west side of the building to the Visitor's Entrance at 3rd and C Streets NW.

Driving Directions

From the North (I-270 South)

  • Take I-270 South and merge onto I-495 South toward Northern Virginia.
  • Take Exit 43 for VA-193 and George Washington Memorial Parkway.
  • Merge onto I-66 East toward Washington.
  • Cross the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and take the Constitution Avenue NW exit.
  • The building is on the northeast corner of the intersection of 3rd Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW at 200 Constitution Avenue NW.
  • The Visitor's Entrance is at 3rd and C Streets NW, one block north of Constitution Avenue.

From the North (I-95 South)

  • Take I-270 South toward Washington.
  • Merge onto US-50 W (New York Avenue) via Exit 19B toward Washington.
  • Make a left onto I-395 South and go into the tunnel.
  • Take the 3rd Street tunnel exit and make a slight left onto 3rd Street NW.
  • The DOL building occupies the block on the left between D Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW on 3rd Street NW.
  • The Visitor's Entrance is at 3rd and C Streets NW.

From the South (I-395 North)

  • Merge onto I-395 N via Exit 170A toward Washington.
  • Take the D Street NW, exit toward U.S. Capitol.
  • Make a slight right onto C Street NW.
  • Turn right onto 1st Street NW.
  • Make a slight right onto Louisiana Avenue NW.
  • Make a slight right onto Constitution Avenue NW.
  • The building is on the northeast corner of the intersection of 3rd Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW at 200 Constitution Avenue NW.
  • The Visitor's Entrance is at 3rd and C Streets NW, one block north of Constitution Avenue.

From the West (I-66 East)

  • Take I-66 East into Washington, DC.
  • Cross the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and take the Constitution Avenue NW exit.
  • The building is on the northeast corner of the intersection of 3rd Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW at 200 Constitution Avenue NW.
  • The Visitor's Entrance is at 3rd and C Streets NW, one block north of Constitution Avenue.

From the East (US 50 West)

  • Take US-50 W toward Washington, which becomes New York Avenue inside the District.
  • Make a left onto I-395 South and go into the tunnel.
  • Take the 3rd Street tunnel exit and make a slight left onto 3rd Street NW.
  • The DOL building occupies the block on the left between D Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW on 3rd Street NW.
  • The Visitor's Entrance is at 3rd and C Streets NW.

From Washington DC Area Airports

From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

  • Go North on the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
  • Merge onto I-395 North toward Washington, crossing into the District of Columbia), and follow the instructions above for From the South (I-395 North).
  • Via Metro: From the Reagan National Metro Station, take the Yellow or Blue line into Washington DC, transfer to the Red line and follow the Metro instructions above.

From Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

  • Go East on the Dulles Access Road and merge onto VA-267 toward I-495.
  • Merge onto I-66 at West Falls Church, and follow the instruction above for From the West (I-66 East).
  • There is no direct Metro service from Dulles airport.  The closest Metro station is West Falls Church on the Orange line. Shuttle or taxi service is available to the West Falls Church station. Alternatively, take Metrobus Route 5A from Dulles to the Rosslyn Metro station on the Orange line. From the Metro station follow the Metro instructions above.

From Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

  • Go East on I-195 toward MD-295 South. Take Exit 2B toward Washington.
  • Merge onto US-50 West toward Washington, and follow the instructions above for From the East (US 50 West).
  • Via Metro: Take the BWI Express shuttle to the Greenbelt Metro Station which connects to Metro stations throughout Washington DC, and follow the Metro instructions above.

From Union Station (Amtrak, Marc, Metro, Virginia Railway Express (VRE))

  • In front of Union Station, exit heading west on Columbus Circle NE.
  • Take a slight left onto Louisiana Avenue NE which becomes Louisiana Avenue NW.
  • Take a slight right onto Constitution Avenue NW.
  • The building is on the northeast corner of the intersection of 3rd Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW at 200 Constitution Avenue NW.
  • The Visitor's Entrance is at 3rd and C Streets NW, one block north of Constitution Ave.
  • Via Metro: Union Station is located on the Metro Red line. Follow the Metro instructions above.

Parking

Public parking is not provided for on-site visitors. Street and underground parking is available (charges may apply). Underground parking is accessible from Second Street NW off Constitution Avenue NW.

Security Access / Visitor Entrance

When visiting the Department of Labor:

  • You must present a valid photo ID to receive a visitor badge.
  • You must know the name of the person or organization, or the event you are attending.
  • Visitor badges are issued by the security officer at the Visitor Entrance located at 3rd & C Streets NW. When you receive your visitor badge, the security officer will retain your photo ID until you return the visitor badge.
  • Laptops and other electronic devices may be inspected and logged for identification purposes.

Directions from local area airports:

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is about 30 miles and takes close to an hour. Shuttles from BWI cost about $30; cab fare is about $60.

Dulles International Airport (IAD) is about 27 miles and takes less than 45 minutes. Shuttles from IAD cost about $22 for 1 person, plus $10 for each additional person; cab fare is about $50.

Reagan National Airport (DCA) is about five miles from The Liaison Capitol Hill. The drive takes less than 10 minutes. Shuttles from DCA cost $10-$15; cab fare is about $15.

Directions from Union Station
:
Metro Stop, AMTRAK, MARC Commuter Train, and VRE Commuter Train

Union Station is located just 2 blocks from The Liaison Capitol Hill. The station houses disembarkation points for AMTRAK trains, including the Acela trains from New York and Boston.
The Metro subway has a Union Station stop, and commuter trains from Virginia and Maryland stop here as well. Fares vary depending on origination location.
Walking directions (Taxis are also available at a charge of about $5.00):
Exit the station and walk toward the US Capitol, following the first small section of the semi-circle that is adjacent to the station.
Turn right onto E Street, NW.
After one block, you will cross North Capitol Street. The Capitol dome will be clearly visible to your left.

Continue on E Street for one block, and then turn left onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.

The Liaison Capitol Hill is in the first block, on your left.
