Robert Bernstein is an equity partner with Laner, Muchin, Dombrow, Becker, Levin and Tominberg, Ltd. His practice has been concentrated in defending employers in employment disputes and proceedings throughout the country, counseling employers on their day-to-day labor and employment issues, training management on a host of labor and employment topics, drafting and negotiating employment and non-competition agreements, drafting employee handbooks and corporate policy manuals, as well as handling collective bargaining negotiations.
David Flaherty is a consultant for Towers Watson’s Executive Compensation and Rewards Practice. In his 11 years with the company, he has gained a wide range of experience with executive compensation, ranging from strategic design projects to providing technical advice on transactional matters such as change-in-control severance. In his current role, he advises Compensation Committees and management of several local area companies and provides project management support for some of Towers Watson’s largest clients.
Jim Grady, Ph.D. is the senior vice president – administration for the California Casualty Management Company where he is responsible for leading the Human Resources, Learning and Development and Corporate Services functions. He has advised executive management teams on the integration of organizational purpose, processes and people to ensure strategic and operational success. Grady’s broad areas of expertise include designing and implementing organizational systems that support high performance teams.
Ted Grubb is a senior faculty member at the Colorado Springs campus of the Center for Creative Leadership, one of the top leadership education providers in the world. Grubb is a lead trainer in CCL’s flagship Leadership Development Program and in the acclaimed Leadership at the Peak program, which serves very senior “C-suite” executives. He also designs and delivers custom interventions; facilitates organizational leadership and talent management initiatives; and manages several key client accounts.
Michael E. Keyes is the president and chief executive officer for Oregon Mutual Insurance Company and Western Protectors Insurance Company. He joined the company in 1989 as vice president-treasurer and has also held positions as executive vice president-treasurer, director and president and COO. He is also director of the Oregon National Insurance and a past chairman of the board of directors of the American Association of Insurance Services.
David C. Marlett, Ph.D., CPCU is chair of the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance at Appalachian State University. He has also served as Director of the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center. His responsibilities include administration, teaching, research and developing strong industry relations. In addition, Marlett has taught risk management and insurance courses at several other universities. He is also a member of the Joint Select Study Committee on Potential Impact of Major Hurricane on the Insurance Industry in North Carolina.
Ben McKay is the senior vice president – federal government relations for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI). He leads PCI’s federal government relations team and has primary responsibility for insurance regulatory reform, natural catastrophe insurance and legal reform. He joined PCI after nearly a decade as chief of staff to elected officials in both Florida and Washington, D.C.
Connie Rank-Smith, SPHR, CEBS, CMS, is the director - compensation & benefits for Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, which insures jewelry and the jewelry industry across the U.S. and Canada. She has over 20 years of human resources management experience for companies ranging in size from 50 to 800 employees. Her expertise includes employee recruitment, discipline and termination, wage and salary development and administration, performance management, human resource policy development and employee benefit plans.
Jeffrey J. Rieder is president of Ward Group. He has significant experience in the insurance industry with expertise in the property-casualty and life, health and annuity segments. Throughout Rieder’s 14 year career, he has been involved with over 250 projects for numerous regional, national and international insurance companies, covering a diverse range of technology, performance, and operational evaluations. He joined Ward Group in 1998.
Vanessa Ruda is a management consultant with Ruda Cohen & Associates, specialists in management and leadership development. Her area of expertise includes executive selection and promotion, executive coaching and development and team-building. Ruda teaches courses on negotiation skills at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. Her research and publication focuses on effective negotiation strategies and can be found in several psychology journals.
David A. Sampson is the president and chief executive officer for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI). Before joining PCI, Sampson worked with President George W. Bush and served the Bush administration as deputy secretary of the U.S. Commerce Department. He was also a member of President Bush’s Management Council.
Harry J. Schum is a senior consultant with CRI. He has over 25 years of compensation and human resources experiences in both the consulting and corporate environments over several industries and business entities. His areas of expertise include executive compensation, variable pay, incentive strategies and human resource planning and program implementation. Additionally, he works individually with senior management in transition to identify negotiating positions for potential career change opportunities.
Dr. Steve Williams, Ph.D., SPHR is the director of research at the Society for Human Resource Management, where he is responsible for the oversight of the organization’s domestic and international organizational research activities. He has spent his career identifying trends in and solutions to complex workplace issues. He has provided his expertise in areas such as best company practices, employer branding, compensation and benefits and leadership development.
Aaron Zandy is a board certified specialist in Labor and Employment law, representing private and public sector employers in all areas of traditional labor and employment law. His practice encompasses all areas relating to the counseling and representation of management clients in federal and state courts, as well as before federal, state and local administrative agencies. As a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources, he provides proactive counseling and legal advice to employers and management regarding human resource issues and related statutory and regulatory compliance.

Cathy Murray is vice president, human resources, for GuideOne Insurance. She has been with GuideOne Insurance, one of the nation’s largest insurer’s of churches, SLCs and colleges and universities, for over ten years. Murray was promoted to her current position in 2008 as their senior HR executive. Prior to joining GuideOne, she worked in the banking industry as an HR Officer for over 11 years specializing in the areas of benefits and compensation.
Margaret Resce Milkint is managing partner of The Jacobson Group and handles executive management and actuarial searches on a national and international basis in the areas of life and health, property and casualty, reinsurance, and consulting for the organization's retained search division, Jacobson Executive Search. Her search expertise encompasses disciplines such as actuarial, underwriting, finance and investment, legal, IT, sales and marketing, and claims.
Stephen Tanner is vice president of human resources for Florida Farm Bureau Insurance Companies. Prior to relocating to Gainesville, he was human resources director with Renaissance U.S. Holdings, an insurance company in Tallahassee. He has also worked in Human Resources in the medical field and in the temporary services industry, with specialties in safety, recruiting, employee relations and worker’s compensation.
