Terrence W. Cavanaugh, is president and chief executive officer of Erie Insurance Group, a regional property casualty and life insurer. A native of Chicago, Cavanaugh joined The ERIE in 2008 after a distinguished 33-year career with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. He began his career as a bond underwriter for Chubb Surety in 1975. He progressed through a variety of positions including several branch manager positions followed by two Zone Officer positions. As a Zone Officer, he was responsible for underwriting, claims, loss control and marketing activities, including management of the agency distribution relationship in up to 17 states. These achievements led to his appointment as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for Chubb in 1999. He later served as Chubb Surety's chief operating officer.
Douglas D. Dirks is president and chief executive officer of Employers Holdings, Inc. He was previously the chief executive officer of the Nevada State Industrial Insurance System, the state-run monopolistic workers compensation fund, which was privatized as a mutual insurer on Jan. 1, 2000 and became a publicly-traded company in Jan. 2007. Prior to joining the Fund, he served in senior insurance regulatory positions and as an advisor to the Nevada Governor's Office. Dirks also worked in the public accounting and investment banking industries and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Texas. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Nevada Insurance Guaranty Association and the Nevada Insurance Education Foundation.
Tony Kuczinski is chief executive officer of Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. Prior to assuming his current position in Jan. 2008, he was president of the Specialty Markets division of Munich Reinsurance America where he was responsible for developing and achieving Specialty Markets’ strategic and business plans. Kuczinski also served as president of Munich Re America's Insurance Company Operations where he was responsible for the development of Munich Re America’s primary insurance companies and core insurance capabilities worldwide. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York and New Jersey State Societies of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
John Lucker leads Deloitte’s Actuarial and Insurance Solutions data mining, predictive modeling, and advanced analytics practice, one of the leading analytics groups in the insurance industry. He provides clients with end-to-end business, operational, and technical consulting services. Lucker has developed numerous proprietary methods and technical solutions in the areas of commercial insurance underwriting, risk selection and pricing, credit and non-credit based predictive modeling solutions for personal lines insurers, claims management, soft fraud detection, agency, sales force and producer management, rules engines, data warehousing and data mining systems design/development, customer relationship management and pricing analytics, and predictive modeling systems.
Jonathan E. Michael is the president and CEO of RLI Corp. which writes niche specialty commercial property and liability business through wholesale brokers, personal and small business coverages through retail agents, and miscellaneous surety bonds through a nationwide network of retail agents. A Certified Public Accountant, Michael joined RLI in 1982 as chief accountant and became controller in 1984. He was elected chief financial officer in 1985 and four years later assumed additional staff services responsibilities. In 1992, Michael was promoted to executive vice president and was elected president, COO of RLI Insurance Group effective January 1994. He was elected to the RLI Corp. board of directors in March of 1997.
Matthew Mosher is the senior vice president of the property casualty rating division of the A.M. Best Company where he has been employed since 1995. He oversees the rating and reporting on over 4,000 property casualty insurance companies in over 50 countries around the world. Mosher chairs the rating committee for property casualty companies world-wide and also serves on A.M. Best’s corporate rating policy committee. Prior to assuming the responsibility for the property casualty division in 2001, Mosher served in various managerial roles, as well as serving as A.M. Best’s property casualty actuary. Additionally, he was responsible for the development and maintenance of most of the property casualty rating models, including Best’s Capital Adequacy Model (BCAR).
Jeffrey J. Rieder is president of Ward Group, a management consulting and research firm specializing in the insurance industry and widely recognized for its detailed operational assessments and best practices studies. Rieder has significant experience in the insurance industry with expertise in the property casualty and life, health and annuity segments. Throughout his 15 year career, he has been involved with over 350 projects for numerous regional, national and international insurance companies, covering a diverse range of technology, performance and operational evaluations. Before joining the Ward Group, he worked in corporate finance at Great American Insurance Company.
J. Douglas Robinson is chairman of the board and CEO of Utica Mutual Insurance Company. He joined Utica National in 1983 as director of agency services and rose in the company serving as assistant secretary, director of cash management regional marketing manager, vice president and general manager of Utica's Risk Management Corporation, vice president and director of commercial lines sales, and vice president and senior marketing officer. In 1988 he was named senior vice president and in 1993 was promoted to executive vice president. In 1995 Robinson was named president of UticaLIFE, and in 1996 he was promoted to president and chief operating officer of Utica Mutual. In 2000 Robinson was named CEO and in 2006 he was elected chairman of the board.
Peter Skarzynski is CEO and a founding director of Strategos. His experience cuts across industries and includes retail, consumer products, publishing, financial services and technology companies. His primary focus has been to help client organizations renew their core business through competence leverage and break-through business concept innovation. Skarzynski is widely published on the topic of innovation and has written for such publications as The Wall Street Journal, CEO Magazine and The Drucker Foundation. His book, Innovation to the Core (March 2008) is recognized as the first to describe how large organizations can build and sustain a company-wide innovation capability.
Brian P. Sullivan, is a journalist who has covered financial services and the insurance industry for almost 30 years. Today, he is editor and publisher of two of the leading industry newsletters, Auto Insurance Report and Property Insurance Report. Sullivan started his career in 1979 at the Journal of Commerce, covering insurance and international trade. He covered business and finance at the Philadelphia Inquirer, and later was named editor of the Philadelphia Business Journal. He also was managing editor of the American Banker and was promoted to president of the company’s international newsletter and conference divisions. He then formed Risk Information Inc., launching Auto Insurance Report, a weekly newsletter, and Property Insurance Report, a bi-weekly.
Tom Van Berkel is the chairman, president and chief executive officer for The Main Street America Group. He first joined the company in 1990 as vice president, marketing. Prior to joining Main Street America, Van Berkel was senior vice president of personal lines at Associates Insurance Group in Dallas, Texas, a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. Van Berkel currently serves on the PCI board and formerly served on the Future One Board for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America and as a director of the Institute for Business and Home Safety. He is also a past chairman of the Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) Company Council of Executive Officers. In 1997, Tom won the PIA President Award and in 1998 was honored as PIA New Hampshire Company Person of the Year
