David R. Anderson is chairman and CEO of American Family Insurance Group. He joined American Family in 1975 as budget director, and later served as financial planning director and accounting director. In 1996, he was elected vice president of the company’s information services division. His major responsibilities included research, development, implementation and maintenance of information systems and use of technology to meet business needs.
Jeffrey T. Borek is a business development executive, cross-IBM OS/linux strategy, for the IBM Systems and Technology Group. He has over 20 years of leadership and technical experience in the software, telecommunications, information technology and consulting industries. Borek is currently responsible for driving the marketing and business development of IBMs Open Source and Linux strategy across all company brands within Systems and Technology Group. He is also working with leading industry analysts, customers, and the Linux Foundation to ensure rapid response to changes in the market environment.
Steve Byrne is vice president and chief architect for Harleysville Insurance, a title he has held since 2006. In this position, he oversees the design and implementation of packaged information systems and the integration of software architectures that support Harleysville’s core business functions. In addition, he manages the development of Harleysville’s agency and field technologies platform, predictive analytics capabilities and enterprise integration. Prior to Harleysville, Byrne served as director of enterprise architecture for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Phil Chard is president and chief executive officer of NEAS, Inc., a global EAP, work/life and management consultation firm serving over 300 companies. He writes an award-winning weekly column in the Milwaukee Journal titled "Out Of My Mind,” and is author of The Healing Earth, which won the 1995 Midwest Publishers Award. Chard is a contributing writer to Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul and has been a guest expert on ABC Television’s 20/20. He taught behavioral sciences at Michigan State University, where he received an Outstanding Faculty Award.
Joanne Currier is vice president of information systems of Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, a position she’s held since 1997. Currier joined Vermont Mutual in 1984. She is responsible for the information technology services and support for Vermont Mutual’s company operations. She has been active in several professional societies and associations, including the Property Casualty Information Technology Committee for the past three years, Technology Committee for Mutual Fire Insurance Association, Vermont Midrange User Group, and past president of the Wheatley Insurance Systems Customer Board.
Robert Dornbusch is a business application manager at American Modern Insurance Group, Inc., where he is responsible for managing user interface design and usability testing of the company Web sites and applications. Because of his expertise in knowledge management and information governance, he often leads corporate initiatives to investigate and pilot collaborative tools, including wikis, blogs, content management systems, and customer-facing instant messaging. Prior to joining American Modern in 2002, Dornbusch worked at Structural Dynamics Research Corporation.
Nancy Flynn, the founder and executive director of The ePolicy Institute, is a recognized expert in workplace e-mail/Internet policy, management, and communications. She is the author of 10 books including E-Mail Rules, Blog Rules, Instant Messaging Rules, The ePolicy Handbook, E-Mail Management and Writing Effective E-Mail. Flynn also serves as a consultant to and expert witness for law firms engaged in e-mail/Internet-related litigation.
Howard Glavin is principal consultant – manager of governance services for Internet Security Systems (ISS), an IBM Company and has over 38 years of security and protection experience. He is responsible for the practices surrounding payment card industry; development of policy, standards, practices, and procedures; policy and regulatory GAP analysis; and risk management and risk assessments. Glavin has acted as the chief information security officer and/or information security officer for fortune 50 companies and state agencies.
Doug Gumm is vice president, information technology, for FBL Financial Group. Gumm joined the company in January 1999 and was appointed to the FBL executive management team in January 2001. Before joining FBL, he worked for 24 years in the information systems division at Principal Financial Group.
Matthew Josefowicz is director, insurance for Novarica, A Novantas Company. A well-known and oft-quoted expert on insurance technology, operations, and e-business issues, he has presented his research and thought-leadership at numerous industry conferences and has been quoted frequently in publications ranging from the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times to National Underwriter, Best’s Review, and Insurance Networking. Josefowicz has worked directly with dozens of U.S. and international insurer CIO’s to advise them on IT strategy and solution selection.
Matt Manzella is a senior manager at Allstate Insurance Company and leads the Strategy & Innovation Services (SIS) department within the technology organization. He is responsible for researching and testing emerging technologies, driving innovation throughout the culture at Allstate, and providing technology and management consulting services internally. Prior to joining Allstate in 2005, Manzella worked for Capgemini Consulting, where he ran the Accelerated Delivery Center (ADC), a software development environment designed to improve the quality, speed and efficiency of the software development process.
John Powers, Ph.D., is a speaker and author with the Powers of Motivation Institute. Prior to his speaking career, he created and produced the Broadway musical, "Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" Powers is the author of four best-selling books, the most recent being, "The Junk Drawer, Corner Store, Front Porch Blues." He earned a Ph.D. degree in communications from Northwestern University and was a professor of speech and performing arts at Northeastern Illinois University. He has also received two Emmy awards for his work in television.
Bill Tedrick, CEO of NxTech Incorporated, began his career in property and casualty insurance as founder and president of BWC Systems. BWC developed and deployed standards based solutions to help agents and carriers communicate through download and upload. BWC became the industry standard for agency company interface solutions. In 2004 he founded NxTech to solve the technology challenges related to Real-Time and Straight-Through-Processing.
Don Tennant is the vice president and editorial director for Computerworld and InfoWorld. He is responsible for the editorial operations of the two IDG media outlets. Since joining Computerworld in 2000, Tennant has held several positions, including editor in chief. He previously spent eight years as editor in chief of the Hong Kong edition of Computerworld. In 2007 he was presented the Timothy White Award for Editorial Integrity by American Business Media, and he is a recipient of the prestigious Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award for editorial excellence in news coverage.
Christine Uzzell is associate vice president, information technology for United Educators Insurance, A Reciprocal Risk Retention Group. She is responsible for the corporate-wide management of information resources and oversees strategic information planning, business process re-engineering, project management, applications development, hardware and software acquisition, vendor negotiations and relationships, and budget preparation. Uzzell has more than 15 years of professional information technology and management consulting experience in the insurance industry.
